Author Guidelines for ELT Publishing Proposals

If you have an idea for a book, we are interested in hearing about it. The following is a list of items
Pearson Education would like to see at the time an idea is submitted for consideration for publication.

Description of an ELT Prospectus

1. A complete proposed table of contents. This can consist of either: a. A formal outline, or b. A list of unit titles with a paragraph describing proposed contents of each chapter.

2. A description of the book. This is the most important part of the prospectus. In it you are, in effect, "selling" your idea to the audience or the publisher, so it should have as much specific information as possible. Please include:
      a. The reason for writing the book. (In other words, why do you think this book is necessary?)       b. A summary of the content. Include which skill, level, topics are covered, as appropriate.
      c. Approximate length of the book (the number of printed pages).
      d. Approximate number of illustrations or photographs.
      e. A profile of the market. Please be as specific as possible, while remaining concise and to the           point. Include:
             1. The age and type of student who will benefit from your book.
             2. The kind of class (level and skill if appropriate) in which your book will be used, and                  the kind of program.
      f. A comparison of your book with the competition. Please select the best-selling books with          which yours will compete and briefly compare each book with yours, naming strengths and          weaknesses. (In other words, why does your book need to be published in addition to the          others?)
      g. An estimate of the time you need to complete your manuscript.

3. Sample writing that is representative of the book.

4. A copy of your current curriculum vitae.
